Ballyconnell's Leona Maguire Heads to Her Fourth Solheim Cup
Ballyconnell will have one of its own to cheer for when Leona Maguire represents Europe at the 2026 Solheim Cup, taking place at Bernardus Golf in the Netherlands from 11 to 13 September. European captain Anna Nordqvist selected Maguire as one of four captain’s picks, giving the Cavan golfer her fourth consecutive appearance in one of women’s golf’s biggest team competitions.

A proven Solheim Cup performer
The official tournament announcement highlights Maguire’s outstanding record of 8.5 points from 12 previous Solheim Cup matches. She heads to the Netherlands after an encouraging finish at the KPMG Women’s Irish Open at The K Club, where a superb third-round 63 and closing 68 left her tied for fourth on 15 under par. Her experience and proven passion for the team format should make her an important part of a European side seeking to regain the trophy from the United States.
Ballyconnell will be watching
Maguire said in the official team announcement that the Solheim Cup brings out the best in her game and that she was excited to represent Europe for a fourth time. For local supporters, the blue and yellow of Europe will once again come with a strong touch of Cavan pride. From her early days in Ballyconnell to the biggest stages in the sport, her journey has given the town plenty of memorable weekends, and there will be great interest locally when the first matches get under way at Bernardus.
