€1 million in funding has been announced today for the refurbishment and expansion of nine community centres in Cavan. Castlerahan and Ballyconnell both received €300,000, while Templeport and Swanlinbar each received over €100,000. Heather Humphreys, Minister for Rural and Community Development, announced the creation of the new Community Centre Investment Fund, which will award grants ranging from €25,000 to €300,000 to successful projects. This grant will be used to purchase a site and renovate it into a community centre. The grant is part of the government’s commitment to help local communities revive themselves. The Community Centre will provide a space for all members of the community to come together, including the elderly and students. It will have facilities such as sports courts and classrooms which can be used by community groups or local schools. The project is in need of more funding so that it can go ahead as planned.
